The GALILEO Syndrome Makes You Feel the Heat of the Ecological Nightmare That is Less Than 20 Years Away!

Super-storms, migrating masses and mankind with nowhere to run.

NEW YORK July 14, 2004 -- Forget the summer blockbuster movies about monster tidal waves, melting icecaps and apocalyptic asteroids. The GALILEO Syndrome, a breathtaking new novel by Environmental Philosopher Daniel H. Gottlieb, paints the most chillingly realistic picture ever of the coming environmental calamity.

Gottliebs debut has been called the 1984 of environmental thrillers for its realistic depiction of the social and political upheaval brought about by dwindling energy resources, a shattered infrastructure, and greenhouse-effect super-storms that threaten to overwhelm mankind.

The GALILEO Syndrome (Canopy Publishing, $24.95, 471 pages) opens in New York on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, 2019. The newly enacted Greenhouse Laws have virtually eliminated automobile travel and severely rationed such conveniences as heat, refrigeration, clean water and electrical use. Ambassador Carlos Jordan and Dr. Susan Willoughby can do little more than watch as society, beset by devastating weather, rising seas and rampant disease, slowly deteriorates in Lord of the Flies fashion. But when an enigmatic communication is received from an alien life form, the two embark upon the strangest negotiation in human history: a trade of resources that could save the lives of 50 million people.

Gottlieb became interested in climate change while working in Silicon Valley on cutting-edge technology for computer modeling and artificial intelligence software.

Daniel states, This book is an attempt to move people forward in their awareness of climate change. The central problem is, once we have enough carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that no one can ignore the problem, it will be too late. CO2 will stay there for generations. By the time we can model and scientifically realize we have a problem the effect may be unstoppable.

A philosopher at heart though firmly grounded in science, his novel The GALILEO Syndrome is the first in a trilogy that explores the next step in human consciousness.

In Dans words, Mankind progressed from a religion-based to a scientific-based view of reality in the early Renaissance. Perhaps there is another step after science that is viable.
